Foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia Sergey Lavrov, Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan are set to convene in Moscow on Tuesday to address the pressing issue of de-escalating tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The meeting will also focus on the crucial task of preparing a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan. Besides the trilateral talks, Lavrov will hold separate meetings with Bayramov and Mirzoyan.
The Russian foreign ministry highlighted that the three foreign ministers will place special emphasis on formulating a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan while seeking resolutions to several other outstanding issues. They aim to discuss the unblocking of transport communications in the region, the delineation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, engagements with the public and experts and the initiation of a parliamentary dialogue.
Additionally, in the bilateral discussions, Lavrov will engage with his counterparts on current matters concerning Russian-Azerbaijani and Russian-Armenian relations, encompassing political, trade-economic and humanitarian aspects.
This gathering marks the second meeting of the foreign ministers in Moscow, following their earlier engagement in May. After the previous meeting, Lavrov said that Azerbaijan and Armenia had made notable progress towards finding common ground on the topic of a peace treaty. Subsequently, the leaders of both countries, Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan, participated in a meeting mediated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
