Representatives of the Russian Central election commission will participate in international observation of the presidential election in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the CEC on Wednesday.
"Under the bilateral agreement on cooperation between the Russian Central election commission and the Central election commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Central election commission and nine election commissions of Russian subjects will participate in the observation," the statement said.
The CEC added that commission members Anton Lopatin and Elmira Khaimurzina will participate in international observation of the CIS and SCO elections.
The next presidential election in Uzbekistan is scheduled for October 24. Only five political parties registered in Uzbekistan have the right to nominate presidential candidates. The oldest of them, the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, has nominated deputy chairman of its political council, Maksuda Vorisova. The Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice), the Democratic Party Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) and the Ecological Party nominated their leaders Bakhrom Abdukhalimov, Alisher Kodirov and Narzullo Oblomuradov.
The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the largest and most influential party in the country, has nominated the incumbent president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He was also nominated by this party in the 2016 presidential elections and won by a wide margin over other candidates.
