Russian Consul-General in Hurghada Viktor Voropayev expressed hope that the Tez Tour tour operator will fulfill its obligations and by December 22 transport all Russian tourists still staying in the city due to the cancellation of iFly flights.
"Considering how the departure of the remaining Russian citizens in Hurghada is going so far, we hope that Tez Tour will stick to its commitments and by Thursday will transport all the clients staying in this Egyptian city due to the cancellation of iFly flights to Russia," he told TASS correspondent on Tuesday.
Commenting the situation with the Russian tourists in Hurghada the consul-general explained that the Red Wings flight to Moscow scheduled for the evening of December 19 was postponed to Tuesday, December 20. The flight was scheduled to take off at 19:20 local time (20:20 Moscow time). Voropayev added that the plane did not arrive from Russia on Monday, but tourists did not arrive at the airport.
As the diplomat noted, 140 tourists flew to Moscow the day before on a flight of the Corendon Turkish airline. According to the consul-general's information, apart from the Red Wings flights to Moscow (400 passengers), which were delayed on December 19, the Egyptair flights to Moscow (300 passengers) and Red Wings flights to Yekaterinburg (335 passengers) are scheduled for Tuesday. The Russian consul-general specified that the Russian tourists, having contracts with Tez Tour and staying in Hurghada because of the iFly flights cancellation, are accommodated in the hotels at the expense of the tour operator.
On Monday Voropayev told TASS correspondent that as of December 19 there were about 2,000 Russians, clients of Tez Tour, who arrived in Hurghada by iFly, but could not fly back because of problems with the airline.
On December 15 iFly flights from Moscow (Vnukovo) to Egypt were canceled due to the restriction of Jordanian airspace. Rosaviatsiya recommended the company to relocate passengers to other carriers. At the same time, iFly itself tried to re-route and fly over Syria. The next day, iFly announced that it would cancel its flights to Egypt at least until December 19 and would resume them on December 20.
