In collaboration with the UN World Food Program (WFP), the Russian consulate general in Khujand, Tajikistan, has provided 1.5 tons of food products for schools in the Sughd region. This initiative is part of the WFP's school feeding program, funded by Russia.
"The transfer ceremony, attended by representatives from the Russian Consulate General, the WFP, and the education department of the Sughd region, marked the delivery of 1,350 tons of vitamin-enriched wheat flour, 135 tons of peas, and 61 tons of vegetable oil to schools in the region," the Russian consulate reported.
This food aid is an extension of Russia's commitment to supporting the WFP school feeding program in Tajikistan, which has been ongoing since 2013. Over the years, Russia has allocated more than $86 million to this initiative. The program provides hot meals to approximately 450,000 elementary school students in 52 districts of Tajikistan. It also encompasses the establishment of 50 school canteens equipped with greenhouse farms and bakeries to enhance food production.
Notably, the Russian embassy in Dushanbe confirmed additional food aid transfers in the capital city in August, contributing to a total of 4.5 thousand tons of food assistance from Russia this year.
In January, in the presence of Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Semyon Grigoryev and WFP Country Director Adham Musallam, a school feeding center was inaugurated under the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan.
