Russian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister to visit Turkey on December 8-9

A Russian delegation, led by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, will visit Turkey on December 8-9. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this on Wednesday in Istanbul at a press conference with his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Popescu.

"We continue to negotiate with Russia on various topics. Not only on the grain deal, which works without troubles. It also concerns a number of regional topics, including Syria. We are also discussing bilateral relations. A Russian delegation led by Vershinin will visit Turkey at the end of the week," Cavusoglu stressed.

The Turkish foreign minister said Ankara and Moscow are working on an alternative venue for meetings on Syria instead of Switzerland. "We have the trilateral Astana format on Syria. Negotiations at the technical level took place in Astana a few weeks ago. We have not yet decided on the ninth meeting of the Constitutional Commission. We know that Russia does not want to go to Switzerland because of visa problems, and we are working on alternatives. But the political process has to accelerate. We stress how important this is for permanent stability. Although we do not agree with Russia on all issues, our cooperation continues," he added.
