Russian presidential special envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and the representatives of the Russian Ministry of defense were received by Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the formation of the Syrian constitutional committee its launch as a major step in encouraging the political process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, they discussed the situation "on the ground" in Syria focusing on the importance of stabilizing the situation in Idlib and continuing the fight against terrorists. Special attention was paid to the tasks of the post-conflict restoration in Syria and assistance to Syrian refugees with returning to their homes, as well as security in the Middle East in general.
