Russian Deputy FM and Lebanese Advisor Discuss Blue Line Tensions

15 February

Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, and Amal Abu-Zeid, the Advisor to Lebanon's former president, engaged in a detailed conversation about the critical situation near the Blue Line, the de facto border between Lebanon and Israel.

"During the conversation, the parties had an in-depth exchange of views on the internal political situation in Lebanon, focusing on the prospects for the election of the country's president. They also addressed the dangerous development of the situation in the area of the 'blue line' between Lebanon and Israel," the statement following the meeting reads.

"The Russian side confirmed its consistent position in support of the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic. They emphasized the inadmissibility of spreading the current military aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to other countries in the region, including Lebanon," the report continues.

The diplomatic ministry also noted that separate talks were held regarding the planning of joint celebratory events to commemorate the  80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Lebanon in  2024.
