Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Lebanese Ambassador Discuss Southern Republic Situation

Russian Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held discussions with the Lebanese Ambassador to Moscow Chawki Bou Nassar, addressing the volatile situation in the southern part of Lebanon amid a significant escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

 

"The discussion involved a thorough exchange of perspectives on the evolving situation in the Middle East, notably the escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Special attention was directed towards the volatile conditions in southern Lebanon. The Russian side reiterated its strong stance against the escalation of armed conflict and the engagement of regional states in it. Emphasis was placed on the imperative to enhance multilateral efforts to achieve a sustainable and comprehensive settlement in the Middle East based on existing international legal foundations," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry.

 

According to the ministry, the discussions also encompassed current issues related to the "enhancement of the multifaceted ties between Russia and Lebanon." The foreign ministry added that in the presence of Ambassador Chawki Bou Nassar, Mikhail Bogdanov engaged in a telephone conversation with Walid Jumblatt, the historical leader of the Progressive Socialist Party of Lebanon.
