Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Thursday had a telephone conversation with the head of Libya's National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaib, to discuss the current situation in the country.
"During the conversation, the parties discussed the situation in and around Libya, with an emphasis on the need for the speedy formation of all-Libyan effective authorities to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Libya," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Elected on February 5 at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum held in Switzerland, the Prime Minister had 21 days to form a cabinet - its composition he had to submit to the parliament until February 26. Moreover, deputies will also have to approve the elected Presidential Council. All of these approval procedures must be completed by March 21. In case the parliament fails to express confidence in the government, the issue of its approval will be transferred to the participants of the dialogue.
The main task of the transitional bodies will be to prepare and conduct presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya on 24 December this year, but before that, a referendum on the new draft constitution must be held.
