Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin on Wednesday during a meeting with UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Libya Jan Kubiš discussed the situation in this Arab country in the context of the conference in Paris, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
"There was a detailed exchange of views on the current situation in Libya and on the process of a political settlement on the eve of the international conference in Paris with a focus on the tasks of maintaining stability "on the ground", holding elections on December 24 and continuing effective assistance from the UN," the statement said.
The international conference on Libya will be held in Paris on November 12. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend it.
