Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and UN Special Envoy discussed humanitarian assistance in Syria

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed the Syrian settlement, including issues of comprehensive humanitarian assistance to Syria, on Friday.


"The parties held a detailed discussion on the Syrian settlement in the context of the regular consideration of these issues in the UN Security Council. Particular attention was paid to the tasks of promoting a political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with UN support in accordance with UNSC resolution 2254, as well as mobilizing comprehensive humanitarian assistance to all those in need in the SAR without discrimination and preconditions, within the framework of relevant humanitarian principles set out in UNGA resolution 46/182 and confirmed in UNSC resolution 2642," the Russian MFA said in a statement.


On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen at talks in Moscow confirmed the importance to continue the dialogue on the platform of the inter-Syrian Constitutional Committee.
