14 June 2023

The situation in Sudan is still difficult, and Moscow is in contact with the Russian embassy, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told TASS on Wednesday.

"The situation in Sudan is difficult, our embassy is in Khartoum, and we are in daily contact with our ambassador. <...> But the situation is very alarming indeed," he said.

"Unfortunately, a reliable cessation of hostilities has not yet been achieved, despite the efforts of some of our partners," the diplomat said.

Bogdanov pointed out that the Russian side advocates non-interference in Sudan's internal affairs.

"We stand for the Sudanese themselves to sort out their affairs without external interference," said the deputy head of the Russian foreign ministry.
