Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin on Thursday at a meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, discussed the current situation in the republic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"During detailed consultations, the military-political and humanitarian situation in Yemen was discussed," the statement said. - "Particular attention was paid to strengthening the coordination of international efforts under the aegis of the UN, aimed at stopping hostilities and transition to a comprehensive peaceful settlement."
The diplomatic office noted that the Russian side expressed its support for the mediation activities of Grundberg in the search for political solutions based on mutual consideration of interests of all leading Yemeni political forces, confessions and regional groups. "The position in favor of a comprehensive and long-term solution to the acute humanitarian problems in this country with the necessary assistance of the international community was confirmed," the ministry added.
