Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed Wednesday at a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Coordination Martin Griffiths on ways to increase international assistance to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
"The parties discussed the acute humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, as well as ways to increase international assistance with the involvement of all available UN mechanisms to overcome the crisis in this country," the Russian MFA said in a statement published Thursday.
The sides also exchanged opinions on topical issues of the Syrian settlement and the situation in Yemen - "with a focus on depoliticization of humanitarian aid, as well as the demand for the UN to conduct objective assessments of what is happening on the ground."
