Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi in Tehran to discuss the development of Eurasian security architecture and threats to stability and security posed by NATO and the European Union. The talks took place on March 16-17 as part of Russian-Iranian inter-ministerial consultations on European and regional issues, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

During his visit, Grushko was also received by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to the Russian diplomatic service, "a thorough exchange of views took place on global development trends, the formation of a multipolar world, and Eurasian security architecture." The discussions covered European affairs, including security threats from NATO and the EU, the situation in the OSCE, and activities within the Council of Europe. Both sides emphasized the unacceptability of using illegal unilateral sanctions in intergovernmental relations and coordinated their positions on key regional and international issues.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that both parties expressed mutual interest in deepening political dialogue and strengthening cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and other multilateral platforms. The diplomats also welcomed the upcoming entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran.
