Russian Deputy Foreign Minister discusses situation in Lebanon with Lebanese Ambassador

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Lebanese Ambassador to Moscow Chawki Bou Nassar discussed the current situation in and around Lebanon.


"The parties discussed in detail the current situation in and around Lebanon, including in the context of the consideration of current Middle East issues in the Security Council and the UNGA," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.


The Russian MFA noted that special attention was paid to the tasks of maintaining the effective activities of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in light of the adoption of UNSC Resolution 2650 with a one-year extension of the peacekeepers' mandate, while ensuring respect for the country's sovereignty and independence.


The meeting was held at the request of the Lebanese diplomat.
