Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin has held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Burak Akcapar, in Ankara, focusing on the diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in Transcaucasia. This meeting was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
During the discussions, the topics of the Ukrainian crisis were addressed, including the prospects for its political and diplomatic resolution. The Russian side emphasized the need for the collective West, led by the United States, to cease arming the Kiev regime, remove the Ukrainian leadership's self-imposed prohibition on negotiating with Russia, and encourage Kiev to adopt a sober perspective of new geopolitical realities.
The sides also compared views on the situation in Transcaucasia, highlighting the importance of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and providing support for this primarily within regional frameworks.
The Russian delegation noted the high dynamics of partnership with the Central Asian states, indicating some aspects of the Russian-Turkish agenda that were touched upon in the perspective of further joint steps to deepen cooperation and constructive dialogue between Moscow and Ankara. It was agreed to maintain contacts.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had expressed his readiness to mediate a settlement in Ukraine and offered Turkey as a platform for resuming negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. Erdogan is currently in contact with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.
