Russian Deputy Foreign Minister holds talks with Egyptian Ambassador on Russia-Africa summit preparations

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia and Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries Mikhail Bogdanov met with Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow Nazih el-Nagari to discuss preparations for the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit. The Russian foreign ministry released a statement on Monday, highlighting the topics addressed during the meeting.

 

"The discussions mainly focused on the upcoming second Russia-Africa Summit, which is scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg on July 27-28," the Russian MFA said in the statement, emphasizing that several issues related to the summit's preparations were covered.

 

Additionally, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa was a topic of exchange between the two officials. "Special attention was given to the prospects of resolving the crisis in Sudan and the Palestinian issue," the statement reads.

 

The Russian foreign ministry commended the results of the recent meeting held in Cairo, initiated by Egypt, involving heads of state bordering Sudan. The meeting was deemed significant in terms of promoting stability in Sudan. "The role of Egypt in efforts to achieve Palestinian unity was also acknowledged, including the upcoming meeting of major Palestinian political forces in Cairo on July 30," the ministry stressed.

 

The meeting took place at the request of the Egyptian side.

 

The second Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum will build upon the inaugural event held in Sochi from October 22 to 24, 2019, with the aim of fostering peace, security, and development in the African continent.
