On September 5, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov had a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Personal Representative George Shaaban.
The parties discussed the current situation in Lebanon and the situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border, stressing the need to avoid escalation of tension in the territory, which happened last week. There was an exchange of missile strikes - the Israeli military command announced the launch of anti-tank missiles from the territory of Lebanon and in response to this decided to strike back.
Mikhail Bogdanov stressed the need to implement UN Security Council resolution 1701 and said that Russia insists on respecting the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.
