Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix discussed the prospects of participation of the CSTO in the UN peacekeeping activities. The Russian MFA issued a statement on the results of the meeting, which was held the day before in the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
"An exchange of views on the prospects of the CSTO participation in the activities of the world organization for peacekeeping took place. A number of regional subjects were also touched upon, including UN peacekeeping activities in Mali, CAR, Kosovo and Lebanon," the ministry said on Tuesday.
The diplomatic office also reported that Vershinin discussed the situation in Ukraine and Donbass, including the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, during a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, calling on the organization's secretariat "for a more balanced and impartial line on the Ukrainian issue."
Vershinin also had a meeting with UN Development Program (UNDP) administrator Achim Steiner.
"They discussed prospects for strengthening the strategic partnership with the UNDP and increasing cooperation in the implementation of the program projects funded by our country with a focus on assistance to developing states in eradicating poverty. They touched upon practical issues of cooperation against the background of the illegal unilateral restrictive measures imposed on our country," the Russian MFA said.
