Russian doctors can extend their stay in Kyrgyzstan

Russian doctors who arrived in the Republic to help their Kyrgyz colleagues in the fight against COVID-19 can extend their stay in the country if necessary, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Aida Ismailova said at a press conference.


"It is assumed that Russian specialists will work with us for a month. But if necessary, they can extend their stay in Kyrgyzstan," Ismailova said.


According to the Deputy Prime Minister, doctors from the Russian Federation provide "invaluable assistance" to Kyrgyz specialists. "After their arrival, they worked for two days in Bishkek, visited the national hospital, worked in the "red" zone and in the intensive care unit. They  assessed the problems and found out what can be fixed. Several groups have already left for the regions. Now they are working in full force together with local health workers in the "red" zone-Chui, Naryn, Osh and Jalal-Abad regions," Ismailova said.

 


The Deputy Prime Minister added that Russian specialists would help Kyrgyzstanis in developing the fourth COVID-19 treatment protocol. "The three previous protocols were developed by local experts. The Ministry of Health has decided that the fourth version will be developed jointly with Russian colleagues," she said.


To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Kyrgyzstan has reached 34512. 1347 people died. According to the Ministry of Health of the country, the epidemiological situation in the Republic remains difficult. More than ten temporary hospitals have been deployed in the capital and regions, as hospitals are unable to cope with the influx of patients. Due to the lack of medical staff, the Cabinet of Ministers of the country recalled all medical workers from vacation and involved senior medical students in treatment. Also, about 70 Russian doctors came to help Kyrgyz doctors.


On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of a new COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 16.3 million cases of infection have been identified in the world, and more than 650 thousand people died.
