Representatives from Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian embassy in Kazakhstan placed flowers at the monument of Abai Kunanbaev, a prominent Kazakh philosopher, poet, and educator. A TASS correspondent reported this from the event location.

"Today, Abai is not only remembered in Kazakhstan but also around the world. His literary contributions are widely recognized, with his works translated into numerous languages, including Russian, French, and Chinese. We owe a special gratitude to him for his efforts in promoting the study of the Russian language. His translations of works by Russian authors like Pushkin, Lermontov, and Krylov into Kazakh remain highly regarded and sought after," commented Olga Filonova, the Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Kazakhstan, during a conversation with reporters.

She pointed out that the works of the Kazakh poet enjoy popularity in numerous countries, where libraries often hold Abai readings to commemorate his birthday.

August 10 marked the 178th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaev's birth (1845-1904), the Kazakh poet, composer, educator, and prominent public figure. He is revered as the pioneer of Kazakh literature and its first literary classic. He also played a significant role in promoting the dissemination of Russian and European culture among Kazakhs.

On August 10, Kazakhstan observes Abai Day as a national holiday. The capital city of the country will host various events such as Abai readings, literary and musical evenings, film screenings, and more, all dedicated to celebrating the legacy of this poet and enlightener.
