Russian Embassy in Afghanistan suspends visa issuance and consular services

13 September 2022

The Russian embassy in Kabul has suspended issuing visas and documents and providing consular services, and asks not to visit the consular department until further notice, a message published Tuesday in the embassy's Telegram channel reads.

"The Russian embassy in Afghanistan asks not to visit to the consular department until further notice. We are working on options for issuing documents accepted. No new applications are accepted, no consular services are provided, no new visas are issued," the Russian diplomatic mission in Kabul pointed out.

They added that in case of emergency, Russian citizens may call the urgent consular support line.

On September 5, the Russian MFA reported that in the morning, an unidentified militant detonated an explosive device near the entrance to the consular department of the Russian embassy in Kabul, killing two members of the diplomatic mission. The agency noted that the embassy is in close contact with the special services of Afghanistan.
