The Russian diplomatic mission in the Republic of Chad continues to work normally amid the worsening security situation in the country and is clarifying the situation on the ground to determine further actions, the embassy told TASS on Sunday.
The diplomatic mission pointed out that Amine Abba Sidick, the republic's Foreign Minister, urged the diplomatic missions on social media to "remain calm" and said that the national army was managing the situation. "We are clarifying the situation on the ground in the area of insurgent operations to determine our next steps. The embassy continues to operate accordingly," the embassy noted.
They also confirmed that since Saturday there has been a "worsening security situation" in the country's northern provinces amid the advance of Chadian armed opposition units from Libya toward the Chadian capital of N'Djamena.
Earlier the Associated Press (AP) reported that due to the threat of an insurgent attack, the US State Department was returning to the States the embassy staff in Chad, with the exception of the main ones.
