The Russian Embassy in Indonesia has urged Russian citizens to remain vigilant and avoid crowded places due to ongoing protests in the country. This advisory was issued through the embassy's official Telegram channel.
"Dear Russian citizens currently in Jakarta, due to the mass demonstrations, please avoid large gatherings in the Gatot Subroto, Gelora, and Senayan districts, as well as near the Indonesian Parliament complex. We urge you to exercise caution and, if possible, to stay in your residences," the embassy's message stated.
Protests in Jakarta have erupted in response to proposed amendments to the electoral law, which would have allowed the youngest son of the current president, Joko Widodo, Kesang Pangarep, to participate in regional elections. The vote on these amendments has been postponed amid the unrest.
Indonesia's presidential election was held on February 14, with Prabowo Subianto emerging as the winner. Leaders from several countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, have sent their congratulations. Following his victory, Prabowo Subianto promised a smooth transition of power and expressed his intention to continue the policies of the current president. He also mentioned that he expects to take office after the inauguration on October 20. In his administration, Widodo's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is anticipated to serve as vice president.
