The situation in Kabul is tense, but there is no fighting and the Russian diplomatic mission is not threatened, its spokesman Nikita Ishchenko told RIA Novosti.
"There are no threats to the embassy, no evacuation is required," the diplomat noted.
Before that, the Russian Foreign Ministry also told RIA Novosti that Moscow had not yet evacuated its embassy from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Germany suspended the work of the mission and urged its citizens to leave the republic.
The Afghan military had earlier promised to secure the capital during the transition of power. The Taliban are negotiating about it with the authorities. It is expected that the transition government will be headed by former Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jilali.
It was also reported that today the president of the republic, Ashraf Ghani, might resign; however, this has not happened yet. Negotiations with the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) continue.
Fighters of the radical movement control almost the entire country and all border crossings.
