Russia advocates for an investigation into the causes of the pager explosions in Lebanon, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters at the IV Eurasian Women's Forum.
“What happened yesterday demands an investigation and international attention,” Zakharova said.
She also pointed out that in recent years, the collective West has been blocking investigations into international terrorist attacks. “The qualification of these [pager explosions] should be made by specialists. But this all needs to be thoroughly investigated,” she added.
Zakharova emphasized that the West manipulates the topic of terrorism rather than uniting efforts to combat it. “Instead of joining forces [in fighting terrorism], the West uses and manipulates this issue,” she stated.
She further noted that it has been historically proven that “many terrorist organizations that emerged in the Middle East and North Africa were backed by Western sponsors.”
