Russian Foreign Ministry Condemns Israeli Strike on Damascus

09 October

Russia has strongly condemned Israel's strike on Damascus on October 8, which took place in a densely populated residential area, according to a statement made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a briefing.

“We firmly condemn this action. Regardless of the target, the attack was carried out in a third country, in a densely populated residential area, inevitably leading to casualties among innocent civilians. It is outrageous that such actions have practically become routine when it comes to Syria, Iran, and Gaza,” Zakharova stated.

She emphasized that Moscow “once again urges Israel to respect the sovereignty of states and adhere to basic norms of international law.” Zakharova also highlighted the “irresponsible and dangerous nature” of this act of aggression, noting that it clearly signals an intent to further escalate the conflict in the region.

Earlier, Syria's Ministry of Defense reported seven fatalities and 11 injuries as a result of the Israeli strike on a residential building in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus. According to Al Hadath TV, the targeted building is located less than a kilometer from the Iranian embassy in Syria. The Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus confirmed that no Iranian citizens were harmed in the attack. Al Hadath reported that the target of the Israeli strike was a supporter of the Lebanese Shia organization Hezbollah.
