The recent visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow has given impetus to further development of bilateral cooperation and confirmed the importance of the partnership between Moscow and Tashkent, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said on Tuesday.

"The impetus for our cooperation has been given at the highest level," he said at a meeting in Tashkent with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov. Rudenko emphasized that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed the significance and strategic importance of the bilateral partnership.

In his opinion, now it is very important to continue the dialogue that has existed between the countries in recent years.

Rudenko said his visit to Tashkent was linked to a working meeting of Russian ambassadors to Central Asian states here. "Why did we choose Tashkent, because Uzbekistan is the only country in Central Asia that borders all five countries [of the region]," he explained.
He added that Uzbekistan's recent policies also influenced the choice of the venue for the workshop. "It is interesting for us, and we decided to meet in this country this year," the Russian deputy foreign minister added.
