Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow positively assesses sending of UN humanitarian aid to Idlib

01 September 2021

Russia highly appreciated the UN humanitarian aid deliveries to the Syrian province of Idlib, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"Moscow notes with satisfaction the successful implementation of the first phase of the UN WFP operation and looks forward to its timely completion. It is also important to promptly develop a reliable mechanism for distributing the cargo to those in need in order to prevent it from falling into the hands of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (a group banned in Russia - TASS) terrorists controlling the de-escalation zone," the ministry noted.

The diplomatic mission recalled that the first batch of UN humanitarian aid had arrived in the province on Monday, and by mid-September the international organization would have delivered 27,000 humanitarian kits to Syria.

"We are in favor of continuing vigorous international efforts to establish normal humanitarian access to Idlib and other areas in northern SAR across the lines of contact, as well as the faithful implementation of other provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2585, including the expansion of humanitarian activities through early recovery projects, increasing its transparency and supporting Syrians in combating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," the diplomatic office continued.
