On May 1, Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov conveyed in a discussion with Azzam al-Ahmed, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Fatah Central Committee, that Russia and China stand prepared to aid in uniting Palestinian factions. This statement was issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"In light of the outcomes of the inter-Palestinian meetings in Moscow and Beijing, it was agreed to persist in targeted endeavors to foster unity among Palestinian factions in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, under the political framework of the PLO, with coordinated support from Russia and China," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry elaborated that during the conversation, al-Ahmed shared details of his participation in a meeting between Fatah and Hamas delegations convened in Beijing. "It was stressed that this meeting aligns with the agreements reached during the inter-Palestinian consultations held in Moscow from February 29 to March 1, underscoring the urgency of promptly consolidating all Palestinian political forces under the PLO framework—the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. Additionally, the imperative of establishing a Palestinian sovereign state within the 1967 borders was underscored," the ministry noted.
