Russian Foreign Ministry says Moscow is concerned about the situation on the Lebanon-Israel border

Mikhail Bogdanov, Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, expressed his concern over the situation on the Lebanon-Israel border.


‘The Russian side confirmed its position in favor of the prompt formation of a capable government in Lebanon headed by Prime Minister-Designate Najib Mikati in order to overcome the internal problems the country is facing’, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its meeting with Saad Hariri, Personal Representative of the leader of the Al-Mustaqbal social and political movement, Former Lebanese Prime Minister. The concern was also expressed about the deteriorating situation on the Lebanon-Israel border, with the emphasis on the need for all parties involved to show restraint and strict respect for the norms and principles of international law and the relevant UN Security Council decisions.


During the conversation, George Shaaban, Representative of the Lebanese Former Prime Minister, conveyed to Bogdanov Hariri’s assessments and thoughts on the evolving political and socio-economic situation in Lebanon.


The meeting was held at the request of the Lebanese side.
