Russia calls on the countries to exchange information operatively for more successful struggle against drug trafficking from Afghanistan. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov in his welcoming address to the participants of the Paris Pact Working Group of Experts on Cross-Border Cooperation in the Fight against Afghan Opiates.
"An effective fight against the problem of Afghan opiates can be waged only on the basis of a clear-cut understanding of the real situation both in Afghanistan itself and on the routes of illicit drug trafficking. In this context, we note the importance of prompt exchange of information on new trends, including through the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Center (CARICC)," the diplomat said, the text of the statement was published Wednesday on the website of the Russian diplomatic office.
Syromolotov also noted the importance of complementing the global community's strategic directions in Afghanistan with point projects of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
"It is significant that the launch of an updated version of the UNODC Regional Program for Afghanistan and its neighboring countries for 2022-2025 will take place on the sidelines of our meeting, which is synchronized with the tasks approved under the Paris Pact. The demand is proved by the initiatives of the Department for training law enforcement personnel and strengthening the canine potential of Afghanistan and neighboring countries, which we are successfully implementing together with our Japanese colleagues," said the senior diplomat.
