The results of the Bali G20 summit confirm that the world will not return to the Cold War, Russian G20 Sherpa Svetlana Lukash told Vedomosti, commenting on the outcome of the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.
"We are definitely not going back to the Cold War, and the results of the summit confirm that," she said in response to a question about whether the increased attention of world markets to this meeting means that a new Cold War between the two superpowers may emerge in some future.
In Lukash's assessment, if the summit failed to pass a joint declaration, it would be a strong negative signal for markets. "It would mean that countries are disunited, no one is willing to work together, there would be no cooperation, no agreements. And that would be the biggest blow to the economy that could be imagined," she outlined the situation.
The Russian sherpa also considers it logical that the attention was "riveted to the meeting of political giants." "If Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin had been at the summit, I think that all the attention would have been on our side," she said.
The G20 summit was held in mid-November in Bali. The Russian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
