Instructors of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan started two-month training of 500 servicemen of the republic's armed forces, Colonel Yevgeny Kovylin, commander of the military base, said on Tuesday.
"In the period <...> to March 27 at Lyaur and Sambuli training ranges a two-month training of foreign specialists by Russian servicemen in 14 military professions will take place," he said, specifying that 500 specialists will be trained.
The press service of the Central military district (CMD) says that instructors will train commanders of multiple launch rocket systems BM-21 "Grad", gunners of self-propelled guns 2S1 "Carnation," mechanics-drivers and gunners-operators of T-72 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles BMP-2, gunners and drivers of armored vehicles BTR-80 as well as reconnaissance, grenade throwers and other specialists. At the end of the training, the soldiers will pass standards in the subjects of training and perform test firing from the standard armament of combat vehicles, small arms and grenade launchers.
Training for Tajikistan's army has been underway since 2015, during which time instructors have trained more than 6,000 specialists.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility outside its borders. It is located in two cities, Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, air defense and communications units.
