Russian MFA announced the BRICS position on the situation with the coronavirus

Russian BRICS Chairmanship published a statement on the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic outbreak in China.


The document, in particular, notes that the BRICS countries support the firm commitment and decisive efforts of the Chinese Government to combat the epidemic


"The BRICS countries are ready to cooperate closely with China and calls for the international community to strengthen cooperation within the WHO framework, in order to prevent, protect and control regional and global public health safety, providing a coordinated public health response to the epidemic outbreak", the statement reads.


The Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country on December 31, 2019.


As of February 12, there were 44,653 confirmed cases in China; 1,113 people died.


About 200 people have fallen ill outside China, including in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany.
