Russian MFA calls Arab countries' positions on Ukraine crisis well-balanced

06 December 2022

The Russian Federation considers the policy of the Arab states to be balanced with regard to the Ukrainian crisis. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said this in an interview with RT Arabic.

"From the very beginning, the Arab countries have taken a balanced approach [to the situation in Ukraine], and this applies not only to statements or closed meetings, but also to documents. Among them is the final document of the Arab League meeting in Cairo at the level of foreign ministers <...>. We appreciate this balanced position," he said.

Earlier, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Hossam Zaki commenting on the voting of some countries on the UN decision on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said that "the Arab common position may differ" from the position of other states. However, according to Zaki, the decisions of the League itself "are clear in this respect: first of all, the League seeks to maintain the existing relations with both sides of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict."
