Russian MFA commented on the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan

26 December 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia published a comment on the parliamentary elections held in Uzbekistan.

"We congratulate our Uzbek friends on the successful holding of such an important and large-scale event. At the request of the Uzbek partners, we provided them with all the necessary assistance. Eight polling stations were organized at foreign institutions of Uzbekistan on the territory of Russia. About 140,000 local observers and more than 800 representatives from 9 international organizations monitored the elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the CIS and SCO observers, the elections were held at a high organizational level, in strict accordance with national legislation and international standards. We note with regret that observers from the ODIHR and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly expected to give biased subjective final assessments, although, in general, did not question the positive changes in the electoral process", reads, in particular, the message of the Russian Diplomatic Department.

Russia is set to work constructively with the new composition of the Legislative chamber of the Uzbek Parliament, including in the framework of inter-parliamentary assemblies of key international organizations.

The elections to the Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan were held on December 22.
