16 July 2019

Department of Information and Press of the Russian MFA  published a comment on the four-party intra-Afghan consultation of  Russia-US-China-Pakistan on Afghanistan held in Beijing on July 11.

"China, Russia and the United States welcomed Pakistan joining the consultation and believe that Pakistan can play an important role in facilitating peace in Afghanistan,” said in the statement.

The four sides stressed the importance of the consensus agreed on April 25, 2019, in Moscow, to promote the Afghan peace process, and also welcomed emerging contacts between the crucial parties concerned, as well as intra-Afghan meetings held in Moscow and Doha.

"The participants called for relevant parties to grasp the opportunity for peace and immediately start intra-Afghan negotiations between the Taliban, the Afghan government, and other Afghan politicians. At the same time,  the talks must be  Afghan-led and Afghan-owned and guarantee to establish peace in the country and detail an agreement on a future inclusive political arrangement acceptable to all Afghans", - the Russian MFA comments.

It is planned to invite other states which have an influence on the situation in Afghanistan to join the next consultations. The date and venue for the next consultation will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
