Russian MFA Condemns Israeli Statements on Palestinian Deportation

31 January

Russia has condemned as unacceptable and provocative the statements made by Israeli representatives regarding the deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a briefing.

Zakharova commented, "We initially stated the inadmissibility of any discourse on the topic of deportation of Palestinians. We view this kind of provocative rhetoric from Israeli officials as unacceptable." She was referring to a conference held in Israel where the country's officials declared the deportation of Palestinians from Gaza.

She further noted that such statements contradict the universally recognized international legal framework governing the Middle East settlement and contribute to inciting anti-Arab sentiment within Israeli society. They also infringe upon the rights of the indigenous Palestinian population. "We expect the Israeli leadership to provide a fitting evaluation of this dangerous rhetoric, which is indeed of an extremely provocative nature," she added.

The Middle East situation has seen a sharp escalation since October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters from the Gaza Strip infiltrated Israel. Hamas described the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete blockade of Gaza and has launched retaliatory strikes on the Strip and parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also occurring in the West Bank.
