Russian MFA expressed concern about the situation in Afghanistan

Russian Foreign Ministry published a comment on the holding of two parallel inauguration ceremonies of the President of Afghanistan in Kabul on March 9.

In Kabul, two parallel inauguration ceremonies were held simultaneously for the main election contenders Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah.

"It is of concern that the current crisis situation is fraught with further destabilization of the already difficult internal political situation in the country and negative consequences for the launch of inclusive inter-Afghan negotiations, the prospects for which were opened after the conclusion of the US- Taliban agreement in Doha on February 29 this year", the message reads.

The Agency urged "all responsible political figures in Afghanistan to be guided solely by national interests, to focus on advancing the process of national reconciliation leading to the cessation of the civil war and the revival of a peaceful, unified and independent state, free from terrorism and drug crime" and expressed readiness "to continue to provide the friendly Afghan people with full support for the early achievement of these goals".
