Russia is ready for a dialogue with the United States on Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

"We are in contact with our American colleagues on the political part of this issue. We intend to continue these contacts," Ryabkov said during an online discussion on Russian-American relations organized by the Council on foreign relations.

"We will do everything possible to make sure that the United States correctly understands what and why we are doing there. We will expand the dialogue with the US if they reciprocate, if the US wants to. For our part, we are ready for this," he said.

At the same time, Ryabkov stressed that the military channels of dialogue with the United States on Syria are working well, and Russia is interested in improving the bilateral agreement to avoid dangerous military incidents.

"We are in a very intensive and professional dialogue with the United States through our military channels. The deconflicting mechanism works, it's a good experience. We hope that it can be used in other situations as well. We confirm our interest in improving the bilateral agreement with the United States to prevent dangerous military activities and agreements to avoid dangerous military incidents. It will also be useful to use the Syrian experience, " Ryabkov said.

The armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. At the end of 2017,  the victory over the ISIS terrorist group * (banned in Russia) in Syria and Iraq was announced. In some areas of the country, the cleansing of militants continues. At the moment, the political settlement, reconstruction of Syria, as well as the return of refugees are at the forefront.
