The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The Treaty, as the agency emphasizes, has made an invaluable contribution to ensuring international security and prosperity of states and peoples of the world.

"The Treaty is extremely important for building trust in the world and ensuring stability on a global scale. Preserving and improving its effectiveness is the responsibility of all participating states to future generations", the statement reads.

It is worth noting that the NPT review Conference will start in New York on April 27.

"We are convinced that its central element should be a confirmation of the commitment of all parties to the goals of the Treaty and their obligations under it. Russia is ready for active interaction with all interested parties in the interests of the successful holding of the Conference", the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia stressed.
