Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov met with Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukry on the margins of the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. The two sides also expressed their mutual desire to deepen foreign policy coordination between the two countries, the Russian foreign ministry its website.
"The foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged views on topical aspects of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa with a focus on the situation in Libya and Syria, as well as in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. Moscow and Cairo expressed their mutual desire to deepen foreign policy coordination, including within the UN and other international platforms," the report stated.
It is noted that the parties discussed issues of further development of Russian-Egyptian relations. The ministers also noted the need to maintain the increased dynamics of bilateral contacts, in which an important role is played by the established trusting dialogue between the leaders of the countries.
"The mutual confidence that the treaty on comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and Egypt, which entered into force in January 2021, will ensure the strengthening of cooperation in trade, economic, humanitarian and other areas," the Russian foreign ministry added.
Lavrov arrived at the headquarters of the world organization on Wednesday to participate in the events of the high-level week of the General Assembly.
