The next round of consultations on Syria in the Astana format should take place in Nur-Sultan in the late December 20s, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian presidential special representative for the Middle East and Africa and deputy foreign minister, told TASS on Wednesday.
"We expect such a meeting to take place after December 20," the senior diplomat said, answering a related question. - "The participation of [Russian Foreign Minister Sergey] Lavrov is not planned."
The 16th international high-level meeting on Syria was held July 7-8 in Nur-Sultan with delegations from guarantor countries, the Syrian government and the armed opposition. Participants discussed the situation in the Arab republic, international humanitarian assistance, prospects for resuming the work of the Syrian constitutional committee in Geneva, as well as confidence-building measures, including prisoner exchange, the release of hostages and the search for missing persons.
