Russian MFA Notes Increased Turkish Interest in BRICS

08 September 2023

Turkey has a keen interest in the BRICS association, according to Dmitry Birichevsky, the Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Economic Cooperation Department, as he mentioned in an interview with TV BRICS.

"Indonesia is demonstrating a significant interest in forming partnerships with BRICS, even though it is not a member at this moment. Furthermore, Turkey, from our understanding, is closely observing BRICS with substantial interest," he said when discussing the potential impact of BRICS expansion on the development of the G20 agenda.

Birichevsky highlighted that the expansion of BRICS was a remarkable development, "significantly amplifying the association's influence and voice."

"In BRICS, there is no requirement for everyone to share identical views or follow a single direction," - the diplomat emphasized. - "Here, complete equality and the consideration of each other's interests and positions prevail. I am confident that this philosophy will remain the same within the expanded BRICS."

Birichevsky believes that the expanded BRICS states will, if not present a united front, at least stand in solidarity when promoting their interests in the G20, the UN, and other platforms. Their cooperation will serve as an example for others to follow.
