Russian MFA ready to contribute to peaceful settlement in Sudan

Moscow is ready to facilitate a peaceful settlement in Sudan, including providing a platform for negotiations at the request of the Sudanese side, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Thursday in the margins of the "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum" forum.


"They must sort out their own problems, and we are ready to assist in this, because we have long-standing contacts. And, by the way, not many states like us have kept their diplomatic missions in Khartoum. <...> This is an indicator that we not in words but in deeds empathize and show solidarity," said the deputy minister.


When TASS asked if Russia was ready to provide a venue for the negotiations, the deputy foreign minister answered "yes". "If it is necessary, we always say 'welcome'," he added.


He said the Russian side would act depending on developments in Sudan. "So far there is no such need. We will act according to the situation. We always have plans for evacuation, additional evacuation, taking other security measures because, of course, security issues for our embassy and our citizens is an absolute priority for us," the deputy minister pointed out.


Bogdanov says the situation in Sudan again deteriorated. According to the diplomat, the security situation in Sudan is "quite complicated."


"The cease-fire agreements are being violated," Bogdanov pointed out. - "We empathize, we are in touch with our ambassador in Khartoum."
