Russian MFA says West turned Ukrainian crisis into global one

26 June 2023

The crisis in Ukraine has obtained a global dimension through the efforts of the United States, Britain and their satellites and affected most of the regions of the world,  a statement following a meeting of the Russian foreign ministry board, chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, reads.

"The Anglo-Saxons have assumed the role of headquarters and supplier of arms, intelligence and instructions for systematic strikes against civilian objects and civilians on Russian territory to [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky. Through the efforts of Washington, London and their satellites, the crisis has acquired a global geopolitical dimension, manifesting itself not only in Europe and the United States, but also in other regions, including the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Arctic," the ministry said.

The board stressed that current international relations are characterized by a high level of conflict, "at the center of which is the hybrid war unleashed by the collective West against Russia." The ministry noted that the West has chosen Ukraine as a springboard and an instrument of armed combat against Russia, "nurturing a neo-Nazi regime in Kiev and turning Ukraine into a new international terrorist cell." "At the same time, the collective West sacrifices to its colonial ambitions the prospects of universal cooperation in space, cyberspace, science, culture, as well as in the fight against new challenges and threats: terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and corruption," the foreign ministry added.

They also drew attention to the fact that the subject of combating new challenges and threats has recently been one of the few "really unifying elements of the international agenda," but the West has politicized it, "which trying to preserve its hegemony is turning the work of any multilateral framework into an instrument of unprecedented pressure on Russia." "The board meeting resulted in a resolution that approved specific measures to modify our approaches to the new challenges and threats in accordance with the new Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation - both within the framework of bilateral relations and in the UN and regional platforms, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS," the ministry concluded.
