Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin had a telephone conversation with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen.

According to the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the main attention was paid to the situation in Syria, primarily on the political track, ahead of the discussion of the Syrian issue in the UN Security Council.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the observance of the cessation of hostilities in the Idlib de-escalation zone due to the implementation of the Russian-Turkish Additional Protocol of March 5 this year.

"The Russian side also stressed the need to increase comprehensive humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need, without discrimination, politicization and preconditions," the statement reads.
