Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin held a meeting with fellow countrymen in Dushanbe during his visit to Tajikistan. Galuzin, who also serves as the deputy chairman of the government commission for compatriots abroad, informed reporters that the Tajik government extends its support to the Russian community residing in the republic.
"It was a source of great pleasure and deep interest for me to engage with the representatives of our fellow countrymen here in the Republic of Tajikistan, and I emerged from our discussion with exceedingly positive impressions. Foremost, I sensed that our compatriots have a conducive environment in Tajikistan for living and working, coupled with a sense of understanding and backing from the government of our friend - Tajikistan. Undoubtedly, this stands as a highly significant and favorable aspect," the diplomat stated.
Galuzin further highlighted that he engaged in conversations with the attendees regarding upcoming collaborative initiatives, most notably the forthcoming World Conference of Compatriots, scheduled to take place in Moscow in November. He underscored that the focal point of this conference will revolve around safeguarding traditional spiritual and moral principles as the cornerstone for the cohesion of Russian compatriots.
The Russian deputy foreign minister also mentioned that he delved into discussions about the operations of a legal defense center dedicated to supporting compatriots.
Russian-language education in Tajikistan
Galuzin highlighted that Russia is exerting substantial endeavors to advance Russian-language education in Tajikistan, along with providing avenues for the country's residents to pursue such education within the Russian Federation. He underscored that the Tajik government is also actively endorsing initiatives aimed at enhancing the prominence of the Russian language.
"We are pleased to witness the increasing interest in and popularity of Russian education in Tajikistan. We are fully committed to ensuring that the citizens of Tajikistan, our valued ally, have expanded prospects to pursue education in Russian and in alignment with Russian educational standards," Galuzin stated.
He further emphasized that the Russian Federation "stands ready to expand its efforts in promoting the Russian language and culture." Galuzin remarked, "We find receptive understanding from the Tajik authorities in this regard."
Galuzin highlighted that this objective is effectively realized through the establishment of five schools in Tajikistan, constructed by Russia, where education follows Russian standards. Additionally, branches of Russian universities operating within the republic contribute to this goal. Galuzin also noted that the annual quota for Tajik students to enroll in Russian universities is progressively increasing. He mentioned discussing educational matters with his Tajik counterpart, Sodik Imomi.
During his visit to Tajikistan, Galuzin engaged in a meeting with Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister Sodik Imomi. According to the Russian foreign ministry, their discussions encompassed deepening bilateral cooperation, spanning areas such as trade and politics.
As part of a 2019 intergovernmental agreement between Tajikistan and Russia, five schools have been constructed in the republic, providing education in the Russian language. Additionally, the Russian-Tajik (Slavic) University, along with branches of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the National Research Technological University "MISIS," and the National Research University "MPEI," are operational in Dushanbe.
